Smith
Mountain Yacht Club was founded in 1964. This
was the same year Smith Mountain Lake had completely filled at the
headwaters of the
Roanoke and Blackwater rivers. Smith Mountain
Lake is the first lake in a chain of four that
eventually wind their way down to Ablemarle
Sound in North Carolina. The lakes
22,000 acres and 500 miles of shoreline provide
a playground for a variety of water related
activities.
Fisherman and boaters alike
plan their families vacations and weekends at the
lake seeking to enjoy its peaceful serenity. The
Blue Ridge Mountains mirror the lake, adding to its aesthetic beauty
by providing scenic vistas the year
round. Smith Mountain Lake has a pump back hydroelectric
generation dam, which provides clean water
up the east coast while allowing us to recover
some water from downstream. Our lake is designated
as
a zero discharge zone by the EPA and monitored by local colleges
to ensure its quality is maintained.
Smith
Mountain Yacht Club prides itself on being the most comprehensive
facility on
the lake. Our core business consists of new and pre-owned
boat sales, an outstanding maintenance and service
staff as well as ample storage capabilities.
We also boast a private protected deep water cove with
mooring for
vessels up to a length of 60'. Smith Mountain Lake is commonly
referred to as the "Jewel of
the Blue Ridge" and
we agree wholeheartedly.
Smith
Mountain Yacht Club would like to invite all of you to stop by for
a visit and see why so many refer
to us as their "lifetime
retreat".
